The Art and Science of Thrill Rides

Published on : September 15th at 1:30pm

Find out more about creating and tailoring ride experiences with “Thrill Engineer” and professor Brendan Walker.

We at Frontier are all passionate about theme parks, coasters, and everything in between; and we know you are too! We’ve seen your many coaster recreations, dark ride experiments, and creative blueprints appear in the game for the past year, and it’s always impressive to see how you come up with ideas and inspirations for your Planet Coaster games.

But did you know it’s a true art to design these rides in real life?  Talking about the psychology behind creating intricate ride experiences for theme park visitors and enthusiasts is “Thrill Engineer” Brendan Walker. His multi-faceted Thrill Laboratory experiments and performances have provided popular entertainment for audiences from the Science Museum to Alton Towers. Brendan is originally trained as a military aeronautical engineer and now runs a design practice specialising in the creation of tailored emotional experience. He also works as a Professor of Creative Industries at Middlesex University and Principal Research Fellow in Computer Science at the University of Nottingham.

Be sure to join Brendan’s talk and learn all about what it’s like to create and tailor ride experiences to those who enjoy them so much.
